BNDES finances R$ 1 billion to 16 alternative energy projects
. Power installed in power plants will achieve 380 MW
. Enterprises' total investment will reach R$ 1.4 billion
. Endeavors will generate 4.9 thousand jobs in construction and operation of plants
The board of BNDES approved at last week's meeting 16 additional financings in the ambit of the Financial Support Program for Investments in Alternative Sources of Electric Energy
[Proinfa]. For an approximate total amount of R$ 1 billion, the credit operations are destined to install small electric energy production power stations in the States of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo. BNDES support will allow the concessionary enterprises to make investments in the amount of R$ 1.4 billion in works for installation of the plants and energy transmission lines.
At start-up time, within an average period of two years, the 16 plants will have a total installed capacity of 380 MW. Such energy is already contracted with Eletrobrás and will be integrated to the National Interlinked Electric System. Proinfa has the objective of promoting the diversification of the Brazilian energetic matrix, from renewable sources, with investments in small hydroelectric power stations, eolian plants and biomass thermoelectric plants. The program, launched in last March, had another 13 projects previously approved by BNDES, with financings of about R$ 1 billion, installed power of 383 MW and allowing for investments of R$ 1.6 billion. Including last week's approvals, Proinfa reaches in current year a total of R$ 2.1 billion in financings and R$ 3 billion in investments, to 29 projects in 11 Brazilian states, amounting to 763 MW of installed power, sufficient to supply a city with 2.3 million inhabitants.
The new financings to the 16 small plants will generate 4.9 thousand jobs, of which 4.7 thousand during construction of the generation power stations and for the transmission lines. After completion of the works, 180 direct jobs will be generated for operation of the endeavors. Among the projects now approved by BNDES, 15 refer to small hydroelectric power stations [PCH] and one refers to a thermoelectric power station supplied by sugar cane bagasse.
